1-It was a late winter night. The moon shone brightly in the sky. The air was cold.
Trees stood partly in deep shadow, partly illuminated by the moonlight. Christina
sang this over the phone.
2-Justin’s studio test—beautiful vocals paired with lovely little mistakes and
casual conversation.
3-I asked Justin to read scripts in his local Filipino language, following his mother’s tone and grammar. Although the script lacks proper grammar, I could still feel the emotion in his reading. In my performance, I wanted to recreate this experience of encountering an unfamiliar language—I know someone is speaking to me, but I can’t grasp what they’re saying. It reminded me of discovering an unfamiliar language and my experience during deep moments of sadness in the past years. When people spoke to me, I would look at them and hear every word, yet somehow couldn't grasp what they were saying. I wanted to recreate this feeling in my performance, allowing the audience to experience the disconnection, not by understanding the words but by feeling it. While some may struggle with the lack of clarity, I believe their confusion and frustration add another layer to the performance. It’s not about understanding the script; it’s about feeling the communication beyond language.
